Handmade Go board by Maruhachi. This board is made of Yakushima Kaya tree, which is a world heritage. The wood quality is completely different from inland Kaya wood, and you can not find such a fine grain wood these days. The top surface is symmetrical. This 24.8cm Hyuga Go board is cross grain, but it is an old tree from a national forest, and anyone can tell it is from Hyuga. There are no cracks, stains, or any other defects, and it is the highest quality board we have. The drying period is sufficient and the size is large, so it can be repaired as many times as needed. (1) It has a handmade foot made by Atsuo Kito, a Tokyo Meister certified Go board maker. (2) Acquired through a bidding process by the forestry department in 1988. The drying period is 27 years. (3) The size of the board, length 47cm and width 44cm, are both made 1cm5mm larger than the original. Anyway, it is heavy.
